Operating as a distributor, a mediathéque and resource centre with an emphasis on the contemporary media arts, our mandate is to serve both artists and audiences by assisting and encouraging the appreciation, pedagogy, preservation, restoration and exhibition of media works by artists and independents. Vtape represents over 5000 titles by over 1000 artists. We return 75% of all sales and rentals to our Canadian artists twice a year. Vtape supports emerging and established artists and does not de-access titles. We have a mandate to support and represent as complete a collection of our artists titles as possible, focusing on video and new media as a discipline within an artistic practice.

Gints Gabrans, taking as matter of reflection the set-up of projection, organises a session of collective hypnosis, on a night where there is a full moon. Alex Campoy captures in an airport the birth of a social microcosm, when the passengers see their flight cancelled and the closed counters of the low cost companies which have gone bankrupt. Yuki Okumura reorganizes and orders urban chaos in filming a countdown from 99 to 0, formed by the numbers written on the T-shirts of passers-by. Abu Ali films a poor area in Brooklyn, which transforms into an inner trip in a landscape of symbols and metaphors from the daily life, a trip through an inner landscape made up of both desolation and the celebration of life. In "And Here", Peter Downsbrough films the urban environments of an industrial port town in Kent, UK. The space becomes political, underlined by an arrangement which gives it its' order. The collective project "La Ricarda" is a film in which the opinions of thirteen artists are crossed and intertwined creating a fiction without a script, a labyrinth where singularities are left out to let a composite and fascinating shape appear. The experiment's location, the Casa Gomis, near Barcelona, becomes the space for a collective experience.

Pierre Coulibeuf offers a portrait of Meg Stuart, questioning the fiction of the subject and the subject of fiction. A portrait which takes into account the subject in the process of becoming, the slipping of the social image. Johan Grimonprez transposes an extract of the choreography of Meg Stuart into the waiting room of the Central Station of Ghent. Sonia Khurana, in a personal ritual, makes herself into a flower-carrier and traverses spaces, from one country to another, from one street to another. This traversal and its interactions generate a psycho-visual investigation. Jason Karaïndros films a dance of silhouettes, a slow evolution in a space where the reference points are lost, in the mist of sand and of dust of the Mauritanian Sahara. Eleonore de Montesquiou films the confrontation of bodies and the behavior of youth on the beaches of the Paljassaare peninsula, a former military base from the Soviet era in Estonia. Markus Bertuch films three young boys in a housing project in the former East Germany, a strange and indeterminate architectural and relational space, between tenderness and melancholy. Manuel Saiz places in a forest two young Japanese women who dance in a synchronized manner to a disco tune. The almost documentary view point and the disjunction with the environment suggest the idea of a secret communication across space. Franziska Cordes stages the principle of equivalence, here that of all against all, articulated from the individual point of view. The motif of competition or of dictatorship exercised by a determined group, reorganization around a decentralized network. Seoungho Cho explores the aesthetics specific to digital video, and pushes image and sound towards a minimalist abstraction. Martijn Van Boven describes an imaginary universe, through abstract images and electronic sounds, and makes reference to a position of the spectator from which the latter perceives an environment of which s/he is not a part.
