PANEL DISCUSSION

The changes coming about in the world of contemporary audiovisual creation and different cinematographic practices, the usage of the web in these practices and the introduction of media practices into the digital realm, all appear to be much more than just an aesthetic movement, but rather a profound change related to a whole new paradigm.
During this discussion, different points of view will be presented along with concrete examples. The participants will offer their interpretation of these changes and talk about what is at state, in their view.
Two central points will guide this discussion :
-Festivals and centers for contemporary art as a space for reflection and a structure of support for emerging artistic forms (moving image, media art, net art).
-The evolution of festivals and centers for art in relation to the evolution of cultural practices and audiences.
The list of participants to be announced soon on our website

A screening dedicated to rare and surprising contemporary animated films, most of which are directed by visual artists. Ozan ADAM creates a primitive animation emphasizing the plasticity of forms. Tomomichi NAKAMURA shows ants and a crow becoming symbolic intermediaries between a strong man, a short man and a pregnant woman. Vera Klute transforms the ordinary into the absurd. J Tobias Anderson reanimates extracts from film noir movies and points out the repetition and the wearing down of language. Diego DEL POZO BARRIUSO speaks about women and men submerged by things missing and the loneliness they experience in their work environment. Xenia LESNIEWSKI gives form to her fears and then animates them. Cecilia LUNDQVIST illustrates the inner thoughts of a house wife on the alternative uses of her work tools. Peter BURR shows the insane collapse of a world inhabited by sad clowns. Martha COLBURN illustrates the age-old fight between the weak and the strong. Federico SOLMI shows us a world without hope in a satire of the current economic crisis. Ulu BRAUN lays out a panorama spanning from Rotterdam to Sydney, gathering the symptoms of our society. Félix DUFOUR-LAPERRIÈRE assembles, juxtaposes and manipulates animated structures, little architectures that follow and overlap each other, springing up little clouds. Vladimir TODOROVIC deploys auto-generating processes and adapts a novel into abstract visual and sonorous forms.

Mario PFEIFER films two adolescents from the Kreuzberg district in Berlin. They venture across different social spaces and appropriate them through an aesthetic gesture. Lupi de Alberto DE MICHELE films a group of thieves operating only on the foggiest of nights, when everything becomes invisible. Jeanne LIOTTA creates an animated portrait of a television tower at the top of a hill, the guard over the fog and electronic signals. Hee Won Navi LEE brings two voices together over the telephone to talk about ghosts and guide us across the city. Chia-Wei HSU films the Coliseum of Hong Kong, devoid of any sign of life, apart from a single voice. Nooshin FARHID reappropriates the images connected to representations created by the media, images of a degraded society. Tonci GACINA films the houses along the train line connecting Split to Zagreb by night, the light from the houses shining through the windows; brief moments of life.
