Biographie

Brian Dick received his Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA in 1991
and his MFA degree from UCSD in 1995. Following his graduation in 1995 Dick
was invited to a residency program at Arteleku Center for the Arts in San Sebastian,
Spain. In 1997-98 he lived in Paris under the auspices of The American Center
residency program. Dick has been in exhibitions in Europe, Japan and the United
States, including shows at the San Diego Museum of Art, MCA, San Diego, Galerie
Chez Valentin (Paris), Galerie des Archives (Paris), Galerie Alain Gutharc (Paris),
the Kyoto Arts Festival (Japan), Rhizome (Denmark), W139 (The Netherlands),
FIAC (Paris), The Centre George Pompidou (Paris) and Museé dart
Moderne de la ville de Paris and Gandy Gallery (Prague). Dick has also been
in several on-line exhibitions Including la art et linternet, and la nuit
de la mutation, curated by Dominque Laurent. In September, Dicks work
was included in an auction at Porter-Troupe gallery, San Diego, and in January
at the University of Texas at Dallas for the exhibition, "DAZE". Upcoming
projects for 2001/2 include collaboration with LACMA Lab at the Los Angeles
County Museum of Art and exhibitions at Sierra Nevada College Gallery; Incline
Village, Colorado; South Western Community College; as well as the ongoing collaboration
with VeVe and Porter-Troupe Gallery on the Celebrity Bed Project. Dick is represented
in San Diego by Porter-Troupe Gallery. Dick is a sculptor working primarily
with textiles in a domestic context. He is also interested in super-8 home movie
making and the notion of play and art in everyday life.
