"Illusions" est un fragment d'une installation en trois parties mais peut être présenté comme une vidéo à part entière. "Illusions" revisite la chanson de Marlene Dietrich "Want to buy some illusions". Tous mes travaux - passés et en cours - font partie du vaste projet audiovisuel que j'ai entrepris. Dans le cadre de ce projet, je replace des vieilles chansons dans un environnement nouveau, mais approprié. Je recrée ces chansons sous forme de clip, puis je les interprète dans un contexte tout différent, comme la scène punk-rock ou électro-pop. J'ai jusqu'ici pu mener ce projet à bien en interprétant même certaines chansons lors de grands concerts de rock, puisque j'ai suivi la tournée Electroclash à travers les Etats-Unis en accompagnant Chicks on speed, avec qui je travaille, Peaches, et d'autres groupes.


"Illusions" ist eines der Fragmente einer dreiteiligen Installation, kann aber auch als Video als solches gelten. Es ist eine neue Version des Marlene Dietrichs-Songs "Want to buy some illusions". Das Verlangsamen des Liedes senkt die Stimmhöhe, die gesamte Stimmung drückt die Zweideutigkeit von Text und Geschlecht aus und verführt den Zuschauer in Klang und Bild.


Illusions is one fragment of a three-piece installation, but could be shone as a stand-alone video as well. Illusions is a new version for Marlene Detrich: "Want to buy some illusions". All the works that I did and still working on, are part of a big Audio visual project Iv taken upon my self. In that project I'm delivering old materials-songs, into a new but appropriate environment. I recreate them as video/pop-video's, then, perform the songs live in a different context or environment which is the Punk-rock or electropop scene. So far iv been successful enough to even perform some of the songs on big stages in a rock context as I was part of the Electroclash tour to the USA with Chicks on speed, whom I work with, Peaches and some other gropes.

Anat Ben-David vit et travaille à Londres. Née à Jérusalem en 1970, elle est diplômée du Théâtre visuel de Jérusalem, ville où elle travaille jusqu'en 1999 en tant qu'artiste performer. Ses œuvres sont présentées lors de festivals et manifestations artistiques, en Europe et en Israël. En 1999, elle part pour Londres, où elle effectue un Master à Goldsmith College. Ses œuvres sont aujourd'hui exposées à Londres; elle s'est récemment produite comme chanteuse dans le milieu pop et a pris part à des expositions d'art et des performances "live".


Anat Ben-David wurde 1970 in Jerusalem in Israel geboren und hat dort das Visual Theatre absolviert. Ihre Performances wurden auf Festivals und künstlerischen Veranstaltungen in Europa und Israel gezeigt. 1999 zog sie nach London, wo sie ihren Master am Goldsmiths College gemacht hat. Derzeit kann man sie als Sängerin im Pop-Milieu, in Kunstausstellungen und im Rahmen von Performances in London erleben.


Anat Ben-David is living and working in London. She was born in Jerusalem, Israel in 1970; she is a graduate of Visual Theatre in Jerusalem and MA at goldsmiths London. She worked till 1999 in Israel as a performer artist showing work at Festivals and art events in Europe and Israel. In 1999, she moved to London and did her MA at Goldsmiths collage. She is now showing her works in London. She has lately performed her work in the context of the pop-world as a singer as well as in art Exhibitions and live performances.

"Illusions" a été réalisé à l'aide d'un logiciel 3D et d'effets spéciaux, ajoutés par la suite. C'est une nouvelle version de "Want to buy some illusions", de Marlene Dietrich. 1) La vidéo montre la moitié supérieure du visage de la performer Anat Ben-David interprétant la chanson dans un environnement 3D. 2) L'œuvre présente une structure en trois plans (premier plan, centre, arrière-plan) et des éléments flottent dans le vide pour briser l'illusion d'une vision en deux dimensions. 3) La chanson est ralentie, ce qui rend la voix plus basse. L'atmosphère doit venir souligner l'ambiguïté des paroles, du sexe, et proposer un son et une image propres à séduire et impliquer le spectateur.





Illusions are made in 3d software and after-effects. It's a new version for Marlene Detrich: "Want to buy some illusions". 1) In the video you see the upper part and half face of the performer Anat Ben-David singing the song in a 3D environment. 2) The piece is constructed to have three layers- front, centre and background and there are elements floating in the space to brake the illusion of a two dimensional view. 3) The song is slowed down which creates a low voice. The atmosphere is meant to bring out the ambiguity of the lyrics and sex and to deliver a seductive sound and vision that draws you in.

Je crois que j'ai dit l'essentiel plus haut, au sujet de ce projet toujours en cours. J'ai toujours travaillé dans un environnement artistique. J'aime que l'art soit un vivier pour le changement, et je me sens proche de l'époque où l'art faisait effectivement passer ce message - l'avant-garde du XXème siècle en Europe, Dada, le surréalisme, le cabaret, la révolution. En tant que performer et artiste, je sens qu'il est de mon devoir de recréer dans l'art un espace pour cela. Je retrouve cette atmosphère dans la nouvelle culture de cabaret, qu'on la nomme électro pop, punk ou autrement. Le performer est là pour vous faire mal, vous changer, changer les choses.





Basically I wrote everything on the top. About the project which is still going on. I always worked in the Art environment. My hurt is where Art becomes a place for change I relate to the times where art delivered that message.- to the avant guard of the 20th century in Europe. Dada, surrealism, Cabaret and revolution. I feel my duty as a performer and an artist to create that place again in art. I find this vibe in the new cabaret called Electro pop rock/punk or whatever, where the performer is there to punch you to change you to make a difference.
