"As if there's always free cheese in the mousetrap" est une vidéo narrative réalisée comme œuvre de fin d'études et présentée à la Kunsthall de Bergen et à la Kunsternes Hus d'Oslo en Norvège. Elle met en scène un couple marié d'environ 65 ans et leur fils. A partir d'actions et de dialogues réduits, l'œuvre aborde des questions telles que la classe sociale, le travail et l'intégrité artistique.


"As if there's always free cheese in the mousetrap" ist ein narratives Videostück, konzipiert für meine Abschlussaufführung an der Bergen Kunsthall und dem Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo, Norwegen. Protagonisten sind ein Ehepaar von etwa Mitte sechzig und ihr Sohn. Themen wie Klasse, Arbeit und künstlerische Integrität werden durch wenig Aktion und Dialog angesprochen.


"As if there's always free cheese in the mousetrap" is a narrative video piece made for my degree show at Bergen Kunsthall, and Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo, Norway. The main characters are a married couple in their mid sixties and their son. Through minimal action and dialogue, themes like class, work and artistic integrity are introduced.

Après cinq années d'études en sociologie, histoire des idées et histoire de l'art à l'université, j'ai passé quatre ans à l'Académie des beaux-arts de Bergen (Norvège) et au Central St Martin, à Londres. Depuis 1999, je travaille principalement sur support vidéo, sous forme d'animations, d'installations à projections multiples, et, plus récemment, de courts métrages. Je vis et travaille actuellement à Berlin.


Nach fünf Jahren Universitätsstudien in Soziologie, Geistesgeschichte und Kunstgeschichte, hat Endre Aalrust vier Jahre an der Akademie für Bildende Kunst in Bergen, Norwegen, und Central St. Martin in London studiert. Seit 1999 hat er meist mit Video gearbeitet, sowohl für Animationen wie Videoinstallationen mit mehreren Projektionen, und zuletzt vor allem an Kurzfilmen. Er lebt und arbeitet heute in Berlin.


After five years at the university, studying sociology, intellectual history and art history, I studied for four years fine arts at the academy of Fine Arts in Bergen, Norway and Central St Martin, London. Since 1999 I've mostly been working with video, both as animation, video installation with several projections, and lately more in a short film way. I now live and work in Berlin.

Un homme d'un certain âge se fait ramener chez lui en voiture après le travail, et il retrouve sa femme sur le pas de la porte. Un peu plus tard, il discute au téléphone avec son fils : ouvrier dans un atelier de métallurgie, celui-ci fabrique une Dolly pour le film qu'il a en projet et demande de l'argent à son père. L'œuvre est filmée en mini-dv à Oslo, en Norvège. Les dialogues sont doublés, la langue d'origine est le norvégien, sous-titré en anglais.





An elderly man is getting a lift home from work, meeting his wife in the door and later talking with his son on the phone. His son is in the metalworkshop asking for money and making a Dolly for his upcoming film. The piece is filmed on mini-dv, in Oslo, Norway. The dialogue is dubbed, original language is norwegian with english subtitles.
