Depuis février 1978, je réalise des portraits filmés que j'appelle Cinématon (en souvenir des photomatons des appareils photographiques automatiques) de personnalités artistiques et culturelles (cinéastes, journalistes, comédiens, écrivains, philosophes, plasticiens, etc.).
Des personnalités aussi diverses que Jean-Luc Godard, Wim Wenders, Joseph Losey, Sandrine Bonnaire, Juliet Berto, Philippe Solers, Fernando Arrabal, Jacques Monory, Frédéric Mitterrand, Sapho, Samuel Fuller, Terry Gilliam, Gabrielle Lazure ou Jean-François Lyotard se sont prêtées à ce jeu.
"Ces portraits cinématographiques conçus toujours selon les mêmes règles qu'a définies le cinéaste :
1) Une caméra sur pied, 2) une caméra fixe, 3) un gros plan du visage, 4) pas de son, 5) pas de modification de cadrage pendant le tournage, 6) pas de changement de mise au point, 7) une durée de 3 minutes et 25 secondes, 8) une seule prise, 9) pas de coupure pendant et après le filmage, 10) la personne est libre de faire ce qu'elle veut." Chaque portrait est précédé de trois cartons d'introduction avec le numéro d'ordre chronologique de tournage du portrait, le nom de la personne filmée, sa nationalité et son activité professionnelle, la date, l'heure et le lieu du tournage.

Seit Februar 1978 verfilme ich Porträts von in Kunst und Kultur tätigen Persönlichkeiten (Filmemacher, Journalisten, Schauspieler, Schriftsteller, Philosophen , Bildhauer... ), Filmomaten genannt (als Erinnerung an die Passfotoautomaten der automatischen, photographischen Fotoapparate).
So verschiedene Persönlichkeiten wie Jean-Luc Godard, Wim Wenders, Joseph Losey, Sandrine Bonnaire, Juliet Berto, Philippe Solers, Fernando Arrabal, Jacques Monory, Frédéric Mitterand, Sapho, Samuel Fuller, Terry Gilliam, Gabrielle Lazure ou Jean-François Lyotard haben sich der Kamera gestellt.
“Diese verfilmten Porträts wurden alle nach den selben Regeln gedreht : 1) Kamera auf Gestell, 2) Standkamera, 3) Grossaufnahme, 4) Kein Ton, 5) Keine Rahmenveränderung während der Dreharbeiten, 6) keine Veränderung der Kameraeinstellung, 7) Eine Drehzeit von 3 min25, 8) eine einzige Aufnahme, 9) Kein Schnitt während und nach dem Filmen, 10) Die gefilmte Persönlichkeit kann nach Belieben handeln.“ (Auszug einer Begegnung mit F. Jedes Porträt wird von einem Schild eingeleitet, auf dem eine Ziffer chronologisch den Drehtag angibt, den Namen der gefilmten Person, ihre Nationalität und ihren Beruf, das Datum, die Zeit und den Ort der Verfilmung.


Since February 1978, I have been directing filmed portraits I call Cinématon (in memory of "photomatons", photo booths).These are portraits of important people in art and culture (filmmakers, jounalists, comedians, writers, philosophers, visual artists, and so on...).
Public characters as diverse as Jean-Luc Godard, Wim Wenders, Joseph Losey, Sandrine Bonnaire, Juliet Berto, Philippe Solers, Fernando Arrabal, Jacques Monory, Frédéric Mitterrand, Sapho, Samuel Fuller, Terry Gilliam, Gabrielle Lazure or Jean-François Lyotard have played the game.
"These cinematographic portraits are conceived under the same rules defined by the cineast: 1) A camera on a tripod, 2) a still camera, 3) a close up of the face, 4) no sound, 5) no frame modification during filmming, 6) no focus change, 7) a length of 3 minutes and 25 seconds, 8) one and only take, 9) no cut during and after filming, 10) the person is free to do what he / she wants." Each portrait is foregrounded by three introduction boards showing the chronological order in which the portrait was shot, the name of the filmed person, his / her nationality and professional activity, the date, and the location of the shot.
