Dans la vidéo "Marcus Fischer's Wake", Oreet Ashery utilise une voix off pour élaborer un document-performance sur son alter ego juif orthodoxe, Marcus Fischer. L'œuvre suit son "voyage vers la découverte de soi", montrant son retour dans les quartiers hassidiques de Jérusalem où il prend garde à ne pas se faire démasquer, puis ses expéditions aventureuses dans les clubs gays de Londres et les cafés turcs exclusivement masculins de Berlin. Une voix américaine affectée guide le spectateur dans ce parcours rétrospectif tout en épiloguant sur cette vie (bien) remplie ; les commentaires sont inspirés par ces émissions télévisées où l'on demande aux intervenants d'évoquer un ami célèbre maintenant décédé à travers leurs souvenirs et leurs rencontres.

Das Werk verfolgt eine "Selbstentdeckungsreise", dokumentiert ihre Rückkehr in das chassidische Viertel Jerusalems sowie Ausflüge in die Londoner Schwulen-Clubs und exklusiv männlichen türkischen Kaffeehäuser Berlins. Eine affektierte amerikanische Stimme begleitet einen durch diesen Tag, ein (wohl) erfülltes Leben kommentierend -- inspiriert durch jene Fernsehsendungen, in denen Leute von Erinnerungen und Erfahrungen, ihren berühmten und gerade verstorbenen Freund betreffend, berichten.


In the video, Marcus Fisher's Wake, Oreet Ashery uses a voice over to constructs performative documents of her Orthodox Jewish alter ego, Marcus Fisher. The work tracks his 'voyage of self discovery', documenting his homecoming visits to Hassidic areas of Jerusalem where he tests his cover, and his adventurous excursions to London gay clubs and all-male Turkish cafes in Berlin. A camp american voice leads you through this retrospective journey while commenting on a life (well) spent - inspired by television programmes where people are asked to talk about their memories and experiences of their famous and by now dead friend.

Oreet Ashery travaille à Londres. Artiste pluridisciplinaire, elle souhaite favoriser un dialogue entre art "en direct" (interventions, performance, interaction), œuvres numériques (vidéo, photographie, son) et texte. Elle travaille parfois en collaboration avec d'autres artistes. Ses œuvres sont distribuées dans le monde entier de multiples façons : galeries, lieux de représentation in situ, centres culturels, cinémas, boîtes de nuit, espaces proposés par des particuliers, rue, festivals de cinéma et d'art "en direct", réseau Internet, mass média … et bouche à oreille. Oreet s'intéresse au glissement entre art et vie, aux nouvelles mutations des formes artistiques contemporaines, et à l'angoisse culturelle liée à la culture populaire. Ses œuvres prennent souvent la forme d'événements in situ, le public en devenant partie prenante. Elles se concentrent sur la politique du corps et les variations introduites par la culture et l'environnement.


Oreet Ashery ist eine in London arbeitende Künstlerin. Ihr interdisziplinäres Werk fordert zum Dialog zwischen Live-Kunst (Interventionen, Performanz, Interaktion), digitalem Arbeiten (Video, Fotografie, Klang) und Text auf. Sie interessiert sich für den fließenden Übergang von Kunst und Leben, neue Mutationen geläufiger Kunstpraxis und die kulturelle Befangenheit gegenüber populärer Kultur. Ihr Werke erhalten häufig die Form von In Situ-Darbietungen, mit dem Publikum als teilnehmender Partie. Sie konzentrieren sich auf die Politik des Körpers und die Unterschiede im Zusammenhang mit jeweiliger Kultur und Umgebung.


Oreet Ashery is a London based artist. Her interdisciplinary practice encourages a dialogue between live art (interventions, performance, interaction), digital work (video, photography, sound) and text. Some of the work is collaborative. The work is distributed internationally through galleries, site specific locations, art centres, cinemas, clubs, domestic settings, the streets, live art and film festivals, internet, the mass media and word of mouth. Oreet is interested in the slippage between art and life, further mutations of current art practices and cultural anxiety in relation to popular culture. The work tends to take the form of the site-specific event with audience as participants. Her work focuses on politics of the body and difference in relation to culture and location.
