Il vit au jour le jour, à sa façon - ce qui ne plaît pas toujours
aux autres! Roger raconte souvent des histoires, il finit même par y croire.
Parfois il se sert dans les troncs d’église. Il faut bien vivre!
Il ne sait pas de quoi le monde est fait mais il se débrouille toujours.
Roger lebt in den Tag hinein - auf seine Art - was den anderen nicht immer recht
ist! Roger erzählt oft Geschichten und glaubt sie am Ende sogar selbst.
Er versteht die Welt nicht, aber weiss sich immer zu helfen. Manchmal nimmt er
Geld aus den Klingelbeuteln der Kirchen. Irgendwie muss man ja leben!
He lives from day to day in his own manner - which is not always appreciated by
others. Roger often tells stories, he even ends up believing them. Sometimes he
helps himself to the church's collection box. Survival is the name of the game.
He may not know what the world is made of but he always manages.
Poème
"Roger est un garçon sympa,
qui ne se prend pas pour un rat.
À la différence de la plupart des gens,
Il est trop lent, pas très intelligent.
Il ne sait pas de quoi le monde est fait,
Jusqu'à hier, au Père Noël il croyait.
Comme un ours, il est fort et costaud,
Mais dans la tête, du vide à la place du cerveau.
Tu ne peux pas lui en vouloir, tu sais,
Il est persuadé que ses histoires sont vraies.
Dans les troncs d'églises, l'argent il a pris,
C'est ainsi qu'il voulait construire sa vie.

"Roger is a cheerful chap
who doesn't think himself a rat.
Unlike most other folks you know
he's not too smart and he's rather slow,
The world for him revolves without a cause.
Last week, he still believed in Santa Claus.
He's tall and strong just like a bear,
however, in his skull there's nothing there.
You can't hold that against him though,
he's convinced the tales he tells are so.
The collection box in church for those in strife
he emptied to build himself a brand new life.

The evening's highlight was geneviève Mersch's Roger - an hilarious documentary
that leaves the audience a little guilty with their laughter. Roger (who was in
the audience at the premier) was allowed a four-day leave from the open prison
in Givenich and the film follows the mentally-challenged drifter around his home
town and the streets of Luxembourg City as he visits his old haunts.
