Starting from Hito Steyerl’s statement in her work and essay (2013), the second edition of The Museum Reader conference will focus on the place of the Museum as a stage of confrontation for political and economic dominance, under the influence of various social forces.

We intend, therefore, to promote the discussion about the artistic autonomy of Museums, when many institutions are confronted between private financing and a public cultural policy, accessible and democratic in its main assumptions. Can these two conjunctures coexist? [...]

Through a national and international panel of directors, artists, curators and programmers, we will try to find answers that translate into alternative practices of understanding the Museum, putting a constructive emphasis to the tensions and conflicts inherent in its nature.
