A screening dedicated to rare and surprising contemporary animated films, most of which are directed by visual artists. Ozan ADAM creates a primitive animation emphasizing the plasticity of forms. Tomomichi NAKAMURA shows ants and a crow becoming symbolic intermediaries between a strong man, a short man and a pregnant woman. Vera Klute transforms the ordinary into the absurd. J Tobias Anderson reanimates extracts from film noir movies and points out the repetition and the wearing down of language. Diego DEL POZO BARRIUSO speaks about women and men submerged by things missing and the loneliness they experience in their work environment. Xenia LESNIEWSKI gives form to her fears and then animates them. Cecilia LUNDQVIST illustrates the inner thoughts of a house wife on the alternative uses of her work tools. Peter BURR shows the insane collapse of a world inhabited by sad clowns. Martha COLBURN illustrates the age-old fight between the weak and the strong. Federico SOLMI shows us a world without hope in a satire of the current economic crisis. Ulu BRAUN lays out a panorama spanning from Rotterdam to Sydney, gathering the symptoms of our society. Félix DUFOUR-LAPERRIÈRE assembles, juxtaposes and manipulates animated structures, little architectures that follow and overlap each other, springing up little clouds. Vladimir TODOROVIC deploys auto-generating processes and adapts a novel into abstract visual and sonorous forms.

By assembling documentary and fictitious images, Fernando DEL CUBO offers a vision of Movida closer to reality than the acceptable image that has now become official. Using a pinhole camera, Jérôme SCHLOMOFF films a Blonde Redhead concert played in tribute to Serge Gainsbourg. Jem COHEN offers a portrait of Patti Smith on a walk through the city, in the neighborhood she lives in. Maite ABELLA films a woman running in a deserted city, and recreates scenes taken from Flemish paintings from the 16th century. Mohamed BOUROUISSA films a correspondence between two individuals, one is imprisoned and the other is free. The film which questions notions of freedom and imprisonment is constructed around an SMS conversation, images and words. Axel PETERSÉN portrays a descendent of the crusades of the 23th century in Bethlehem, a man who admires Louis II of Bavière and Richard Clayderman. Simon MULLAN films a dancer in an unexpected environment. Florencia P. MARANO observes an ambiguous body in front of a mirror, and questions reversibility and identity of feminine and masculine genders. Florencia P. MARANO directs, in the style of the Scopitones of the 1960’s, a music video with Genesis P-Orridge in a boxing ring.

Julieta HANONO films uncertain places which become the material of intimate narratives. Floris SCHÖNFELD et Michaël SEWANDONO adapt extracts of novels by Paul Auster and Haruki Murakami and show the subtle tension which precedes the turning points in a narrative. Carlos TRONCOSO conducts an exercice in compensation, by inversing the conditions creating representations of social classes and reworking the stereotypes of the elite and working classes. Claire ANGELINI attaches herself to the image of a woman revisiting the places of her childhood in France, Tunisia and Algeria, and offers us a reflection on travelling across history by way of the places where we grow up.

Oliwia TONTERI and Jerem TONTERI film a solitary character travelling, and by associating images and forms, they deploy the premises of a dream. Johanna DOMKE directs a travelling shot in a park, overlapping public and private spaces. The intrusive camera is like an omniscient eye which would go as far as to build reality in order to create fiction. Theodore TAGHOLM recreates movement from landscape photos. Ken JACOBS digitally revisits a film that he directed between 1964 and 1965, during the war in Vietnam. This film is just as much about time and history as it is about music and human relations. Nicolas LELIÈVRE, Renaud HERBIN and Anamaria FERNANDES directed this series of images, alternating the city of Aubusson with portraits of its inhabitants. Somewhere in between the post card, the slideshow and stereophotograph, these images lay out a sensitive portrait of the city. Crispin GURHOLT films the mise en scene of fixed instants, and leads our gaze to the rebuilding of a possible story. Axel ROESSLER explores a polaroïd photo album. Miska Michael KNAPEK films a café for 22 hours ; decomposes the sequence into spatiotemporal fragments and recomposes a new image, proposing a condensed period of filmed time. Seoungho CHO introduces vertical breaks into the horizontal lines of the golden landscape of Death Valley in California. Mahbubur RAHAMAN films the urban spaces and children in a city in Bangladesh.

Gregg SMITH films a young man arriving in a village to attend a job interview. Despite having little experience, he is recommended by his friend’s wife who seems to have some influence. Yorgos TAXIARCHOPOULOS shows us a young man committing rebellious acts in a public place. Dustin FENELEY follows a salesman looking for new contacts. Tomas HENDRIKS films a man after a troubling discovery and shows the altering of his perception in a world which has lost all coherence. Patrick BERNATCHEZ is interested in the traits of a certain type of social schizophrenia between representation and abstraction. He takes us through a building destined to be demolished and haunted by its previous activity.
