Made of 360 fragments of found footage 360° videos, “- f(OO)f -” explores and recycles sequences recorded from cars, planes, video games, reports and home videos. Images are intertwined, intricated and edited, questionning both spaces of perception and representation, building a radical criticism of our contemporary visual culture.
Dirk Paes was born in Brussels, he lives and works in the Netherlands. He is one of the members of the JODI duo, who pioneered web-based art in the mid-90s. For a few years now, in parallel to their collective work, each of them is developing specific artistic researches on their own. Jodi’s work is featured in most art historical volumes about digital art, media art, and net art, and has been exhibited widely at venues such as documenta X, Kassel; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; ZKM, Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe; Bonner Kunstverein and Artothek, Bonn; InterCommunication Center, Tokyo; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Center for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow; Guggenheim Museum, New York; MoMA, New York; Eyebeam, New York; and Museum of the Moving Image, New York, among many others. Jodi is regularly seen as part of an international group of artists, including Vuk Cosic, Alexei Shulgin, and Olia Lialina, who pioneered art on the web, usually referred to as net.art. In contrast to working in the institutionalized art world, they chose to work on the net because it gave freedom. The internet was a free space to experiment and communicate. This network of artists influenced each other and communicated using mailing lists such as Rhizome and Nettime (which was founded by Dutch media theorist Geert Lovink). After they met at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht, where they studied photography and video, they moved to Silicon Valley (San Jose, California) to learn about digital media. It was in Silicon Valley that they became familiar with the internet. Since 1995 they have been working together as Jodi, creating art on the World Wide Web. Although they are most famous for their web-based work, they also work in a wide variety of media and techniques like software, performances, installations, and exhibitions. JODI were among the first artists to investigate and subvert conventions of the Internet, computer programs, and video and computer games. Radically disrupting the very language of these systems, including interfaces, commands, errors and code, JODI stages extreme digital interventions that destabilize the relationship between computer technology and its users. They received a 1999 Webby Award in the category Net Art. In 2014, Jodi was awarded the inaugural Prix Net Art Award by Rhizome, a leading art organization dedicated to born-digital art and culture affiliated with the New Museum in New York. The influence of the work can not only be seen in the art world, but in internet culture too: the work is spoken about on forums of hacker sites and on YouTube many videos can be found reviewing, explaining, and researching wwwwwwwww.jodi.org with titles such as “weirdest website of all time” and “wwwwwwwww.jodi.org: secrets?”.

Plantz
Vidéo | 4k | couleur | 0:0 | Australie | 2019
"Plantz" is a procedural animation from Baden Pailthorpe's 2019 exhibition "Asset Pack", 2019. In this series, Pailthoroe intensifies his examination of the cultures of late capitalism by reinterpreting the material culture of digital marketplaces. In doing so, he recontextualises these objects and redefines their potential as artefacts of our contemporary moment. Like an archaeologist unearthing speculative objects from the networks that increasingly define our lives, these artworks speak to the complex and unstable nature of society today.
Baden Pailthorpe is a contemporary artist who works with emerging and experimental technologies. He is Lecturer in Hybrid Art Practice at the Australian National University?s School of Art & Design, Canberra. His artistic practice interrogates the relationship between aesthetics and power, interrogating the politics of technological and economic structures across Sport, Finance and the Military-Industrial Complex. Since 2011, Baden’s practice has integrated performance and installation alongside screen-based interventions. Examples include: a commissioned performance at the Centre Pompidou, Paris (2014); video work depicting a hacked military simulator at the Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2012); documentation of a video game performance exhibited at the Triennale di Milano, Milan (2016); a ‘start-up as artwork’ at Sullivan+Strumpf (2017); and an experimental data visualisation of AFL player GPS data at UTS Art, Sydney (2017). Significant exhibitions include Clanger, UTS Art Gallery, Sydney (2018); Pitch Deck, Sullivan+Strumpf, Sydney & Singapore (2017); GAME ART/VIDEO, 21st Triennale di Milano, Milan (2016); Spatial Operations, Newcastle Art Gallery, Newcastle (2015); Guarding the Home Front, Casula Powerhouse, Sydney (2015); On Return and What Remains, Artspace, Sydney (2014) & CACSA, Adelaide (2015); Students of War, Hors Pistes, Centre Pompidou, Paris (2014); Cadence, Westspace (2014); Moving_Image 10, La Gai?te? Lyrique, Paris (2013); and Rencontres Internationales, Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2012). Baden’s work is held in significant private and public collections, including Artbank, Australia; Australian Parliament House Art Collection, Canberra; Newcastle Art Gallery, Newcastle; The Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide; The Australian War Memorial, Canberra; The Netherlands Media Art Institute (NIMk), Amsterdam; The National Library of Australia, Canberra; UTS Art, Sydney; and UQ Art Museum, Brisbane.

Yo La Tengo
VR expérimental | 0 | couleur | 0:0 | Argentine | 2018
When the Lumière brothers invented the cinematograph in 1985, they quickly understood that the spectator's curiosity was aroused by the mere reflection of reality: people were flabbergasted at watching situations that they usually took for granted, such as a train arriving at a station or workers leaving a factory. In this piece we scanned objects and environments which make up our conception of reality and placed them in a virtual space by using photogrammetry, a 3D reconstruction technique. We allow the users to experience a twist on the conception of time and space they are used to by altering the dimensions of the scans, placing them on new positions, and embracing the errors that occur when capturing reality. The result is an absurdly atypical territory which can be navigated via teleportation as if it were a new planet. The spectator is physically circumscribed to a narrow perimeter but virtually the limits become fuzzy and elusive, every direction is equivalent and their individual and uniqueexploration will force them to reflect on the nature of virtual reality.
Maximiliano Parlagreco is an audiovisual design student (FADU, UBA) who’s interested in the impact of technology on society and the fuzzy line which divides reality from virtuality. He has employed photography, video, creative coding and digital animations in an experimental way to create navigable universes which are slightly different from the one we live in. Lately he’s ventured both in the field of virtual and augmented reality, as well as that of artificial intelligence, exploring the human-machine symbiosis that occurs in these devices. Micaela Pinalli is an audiovisual design student (FADU, UBA) who has worked in analogue and digital found footage creation with a great interest in montage and the way accidental interactions between shots creates a meaning. She currently develops projects ranging from interactive and graphic design to photography and animation. Since June 2019 she's been running the independent publisher Cuarto Ciego, where she creates and sells artistic graphic pieces.

Set Theory I-IV
Vidéo | hdv | couleur et n&b | 5:0 | Royaume-Uni | 2018
Set Theory I–IV explores every corner of flat screen space and corresponding illusions of depth. Part I (2mins) involves dissolving surfaces. Part II (2mins) adds alternating planes and the numbers 0 and 1, as graphic components. Part III (12mins) slowly takes the screen into depth, evoking architectonic principles of the video frame. Adding another dimension, Part IV (2mins) introduces pure, constantly changing colour fields. In the first instance, Set Theory involved producing and collating different sets of vertical, horizontal, diagonal and curved graphic transitions. These were subsequently combined or sequenced by way of different rules that keep the conflict of planes, forms, tonal values and colour foremost.
Simon Payne studied at the Kent Institute of Art and Design, Maidstone; Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee; and the Royal College of Art, London. His work has shown in numerous festivals and venues including. He has also written widely on experimental film and video. He co-edited the book Kurt Kren: Structural Films (2016) with Nicky Hamlyn and A.L. Rees and is currently editing a posthumous book by A.L. Rees, entitled Fields of View: Film, Art and Spectatorship. Sheet N°4
Film expérimental | 16mm | couleur | 12:0 | Finlande | 2018
Sheet No4 examines the outlines and borders of a photograph -and a human being. How to look, how to see, how to move. Using repetition and reinterpretation to both construct and deconstruct the image and its boundaries. A Conflict between outlines and content. One of the starting points of the work was the dialogue between Pelkki and the four multidisciplinary artists, whom she invited to collaborate; Emma Hammarén, Magnús Logi Kristinsson, Johan Jonason and Keiko Yamamoto. The interaction and diverse interpretations embodied in those exchanges becomes the core of Sheet No4. The name of the work refers to a contact sheet, a proposal for a photograph, where all the options are there with possible re-framing and remarks.
Sini Pelkki (b. 1978 Helsinki) works with photography and moving image. She is interested in the subjectivity of seeing, introspective lives of spaces within spaces. In her works landscapes, figures and objects turn into layered narratives that lead to various paths and ambiguous readings. George - The Story of George Maciunas and Fluxus
Documentaire | hdv | couleur et n&b | 120:0 | USA | 2018
An epic journey with many angles and perspectives, George Maciunas (1931-1978) was the founder of Fluxus, a radical avant-garde art movement of the 20th century. The film starts in Lithuania before moving to New York, where émigré Maciunas, became an exceptional artist with roots in the Soviet avant-garde and Dada. The film uncovers his complex character and distinctive practice, expounding the rebellious creativity that imitated a whole international movement of artists, composers, designers and poets in the 1960s and 70s, and whose radical legacy powerfully endures. The film’s playful editing evokes a key tenet of Fluxus, where process is more meaningful than end product. From developing the first artist-owned lofts in SoHo, New York, to his attempt to realize a utopian society on a desolate island in the Caribbean, Maciunas was an uncompromising visionary with a rebellious sense of humor. What emerges in the film, is a kaleidoscopic, often contradictory but always revealing portrait of Maciunas' bold and tragic life. Archival and original interviews with major artists and commentators, including Mekas and Yoko Ono, create a scintillating portrait of underground New York; where radical art, gender diversity and encroaching gentrification existed in tandem.
Nicknamed 'the Fluxus cabdriver' by Nam June Paik, Jeffrey Perkins is an artist and filmmaker who has worked in relative obscurity for over five decades, having collaborated in the 1960s with Fluxus artists including George Maciunas, Yoko Ono, and Alison Knowles. Perkins co-founded the multi media group The Single Wing Turquoise Bird, which was the premier rock and roll concert light show in the sixties. Until recently he was best known for his light projection performances and his Movies for the Blind, based on sound recordings of interviews with passengers in his cab. He completed the feature documentary portrait of George - the story of George Maciunas and Fluxus in 2018 and his feature The Painter Sam Francis in 2008. Other films of his hand are Fluxus Film #22: Shout (1966), Stan Brakhage on Gregory Markopolous (1998) and Meet the Kuchar Brothers (1999). Jeff Perkins has been associated with Anthology Film Archives in New York since 1986, and has produced several programs and performances there since then.
Dirk Peuker, Bettina Nürnberg
Elephant Bearing an Obelisk
Doc. expérimental | 16mm | couleur | 14:0 | Allemagne | 2018
Marbled paper blue, a book’s illustrations, the flicker of film’s materiality: these are just a few of the narrative devices that punctuate Bettina Nürnberg and Dirk Peuker’s essayist film tracing the atmospheric efects of Italian architect Carlo Scarpa’s significant buildings, including the Brion family cemetery. As homage the work continues the filmmakers’ interests in documenting architectural histories. What is significant about this more poetic rendering is how it follows the rhythm of the spatial forms and motifs of their subject: Scarpa took an apolitical stance and refused to make architecture during the reign of fascism in Italy (1922–43); in the years that followed however, he produced Venice’s modernist exemplars, arguably the most beautiful architectural works of modernism for how they create mental spaces embedded in and indebted to his phenomenal city. With awareness of their medium, Nürnberg and Peuker capture both the structure and freeforming style of Scarpa’s architecture: their camera is equally focused on the mood of the city, the flow of water, the mandala as dichotomous form—light casts shadows. In turn, the film oscillates between document and experimental realism. The punctuating book pages that were an inspiration for Scarpa and ofer a structuring means for the sensuality of the recorded images come from the Venetian treatise of 1499 ascribed to Poliphili, which loosely acts an inventory of life-forms and classical humanist thought while following the story of courtly love. The act of ceremony is important to the book and so it is to the film as it mediates on Scarpa’s constructions, anachronistic zones that cross life with death, only to return to life once more: the film flickers, the paper is left wet, a hand all blue rises from the ruins … (Laura Preston)

Hang Pham Thu
Mùa Cát Vong
Documentaire | hdv | couleur | 96:0 | Viet nam | 2018
Surrounded by the surreal landscape of Quang Tri province, four men live their lives inseparably from each other. The rhythm of their everyday lives is defined by moments of togetherness in a house with no doors where they all come to drink, smoke, play guitar and sing songs about love and the revolution of the past. Feelings of hatred interweave with compassion, swelling amidst the stagnation of time and space, seemingly awaiting for an unknown. One day, the unknown comes and takes one of them away, leaving the others to go on slipping through an undesired life. Meanwhile, the landscape, located in the border between North and South Vietnam, is what lives on, revealing traces of a war that has outlived its conclusion.
PHAM THU HANG has worked as a researcher in Vietnam Institute of Culture and Art since 2004. She later joined Hanoi Doclab, a breakthrough documentary and video art center in Hanoi where she made several short documentary films. She has since decided to add her voice in the small but active and growing community of young independent documentary filmmakers in Vietnam. Hang recently obtained her Master’s in Documentary Directing in a consortium of three universities in Europe under the DocNomads Joint Master program in Lisbon, Budapest and Brussels. Her concern in filmmaking opens to many themes but mainly draws attention to rediscovering Vietnamese culture and the connection between the internal world in Vietnam and the world outside, especially in the context of contemporary globalization.

Fever
VR expérimental | 0 | couleur | 8:0 | Luxembourg | 2019
FEVER (8-10 minutes) is an experience in virtual reality. For both adults and children, a high fever can mean hallucinations — mainly auditory and visual, lucid and in dreams. As a VR experience, FEVER refers to this brief hallucinatory state, acknowledging and interpreting the metaphysical process that occurs when one is within and yet removed from one’s own body, and the limits presented herein vis-à-vis body/environment and self/other. FEVER is also a virtual poem about illness and body fictions. FEVER is written and created by Karolina Markiewicz and Pascal Piron, in technical collaboration with Fabrizio Palmas, Antoine Thiry and Stefan Laimer (D). The music is created by Kevin Muhlen (L) joined by the voice of Ásta Fanney Sigurdardottir (IS) and by the narration of Elisabet Johannesdottir (L/IS).
Karolina Markiewicz and Pascal Piron’s collaborative work creates links between film, visual arts and theatre. At the center is the individual person as part of a human community, oscillating between resignation and hope. Karolina studied political science, philosophy and theatre and works as a film and theatre director. Pascal studied visual arts and works as an artist and film director. Both work also as teachers. They are currently working on several cinematographic and artistic projects. Sublimation – an interactive installation based dance interactive VR piece with butoh dancer Yuko Kominami, was part of College Biennale Cinema VR by the Mostra di Venezia in 2019 and had its premiere at the festival. The duo also works on My Identity is this expanse!, a location based VR piece on exile and resilience through poetry. The Living Witnesses, a feature documentary about anti-Semitism is currently in post-production and will be released this year.

Schmutziges Licht (Lichtphon Art-Avant X)
Performance multimédia | hdv | couleur et n&b | 7:35 | Allemagne | 2018
Schmutziges Licht (Lichtphon Art-Avant X) An abstract, poetic visual-sound-drama The visual, tonal union and view of transcendent embodiment. A symbiosis of micro-coded, floating light-dust particles, interconnected in cracked soundscapes, layered sound cells, residual impulses and dissecting short-time cuts in noise structures. A self-born symbiotic being - alive through dissolution and constant change in time - Metamorphoses - Schmutziges Licht (Lichtphon Art-Avant X) is transformation in the beauty of decay and nonexistence. In the change of sight and hearing, reality and the levels of being resonate. Form and formlessness become inseparable. The unknown emerges, moves, penetrates into the observer, into us - becomes conscious and existent - Inner perception is infinite - Schmutziges Licht (Lichtphon Art-Avant X) is a multi-layered light-image-sound-vision. An artistic position and poetic exploration of the perception of artificial light and the unknown in the incarnate - of selfhood in an eternally lasting word in silence. On the technical side, the music consists of several hundred audio tracks with thousands of individual sounds. The visual level is based on a self-developed software particle system. There are hundreds of thousands coded pixel points, cross- linked lines and inner networked connections. Micro-audio clips, multi-level, time-independent organic soundscapes and digital visual light codes. Schmutziges Licht (Lichtphon Art-Avant X) is a complex visual sound correlation. Abstract, mysterious, filigree, powerful and subtle at the same time. A German-French co-production by the experimental artists Schahram Poursoudmand (DE) and Yoann Trellu (FR). Schahram Poursoudmand Music & Sound Art, Composer, Visual Imagist, Poet Schahram Poursoudmand is a German composer, music & sound artist, visual imagist and poet. He creates extraordinary music, sound and visual art of a unique kind. In the avant-garde projects LICHTPHON, ONEVERYMOON, LICHTSCHREI, SHINE and ART-AVANT, he explores and realizes his artistic visions of music, sound, visual image and video art in existential poetry. The creative discovery of beauty through disintegration, dissolution, transformation, recreation and the representation of being and beyond in the transition from existence to non-existence is the essential approach and destination in his artistic passion. Music, sound, image and moving picture is stretched and condensed in form, time and space. Tonal and visual entities, sections and details, become disintegrated through dissolution in themselves and creates new structures, unknown realities and avant-garde elements by further deformation, in the beauty of decomposition. Existence, time, duality, deconstruction, humanism, transcendence, the infinite moment, the unknown, and recreation are some of the themes in his works. Schahram Poursoudmand creates unreal worlds of music, sound, visual art and poetry of strange beauty with unique aesthetics and expression. A surreal and bizarre mystery in music and visual art. „The fascination of renewal after the dissolution. The discovery and changing of time and time states. The artistic deconstruction, the diving into deep micro- and nanostructured soundworlds, as well as the representation of beauty in the creation of existence in nonexistence and new realities are the themes that stirs and fascinates me. Not the clearly audible and visible - but the secret behind the veil.“ * ...another world...an unknown place...an unknown time... * ::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::::::: Yoann Trellu French video artist and software developer based in Berlin. Starts working with live video projections in 1999, Nantes, France. Moves to Berlin in 2003 and starts working with choreographers, creating media environment for stage productions. Yoann Trellu works internationally on numerous stage productions as well as developing his own projects through collaborations with musicians and dancers. His work is mostly abstract and stems from his early photographic work, using the camera and digital tools to alter reality, to extend details and moments into their own world. He considers the computer as a collaborator, able to suggest and create artistic elements. Using controlled randomness and probability is an important aspect of his practice, giving rules, limitations and (unlimited) variations on which to build further.

The film investigates how cities emerge and change through inclusion and exclusion, migration, decay, destruction, demolition, relocation, displacement. Urban territories, districts are characterized by different social processes, business relationships, power relations, private affairs. We wonder how urban territories are formed and why they change? Who controls the city or how do the inhabitants create free spaces? Who owns the city?

Film expérimental | 16mm | couleur | 21:50 | Allemagne | 2019
DESPAIR works with cinematic reenactments, which are connected in an associative collage-like layering into an experimental film, taking Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s film of the same title from 1977 as its starting point. Drawing on and digressing from various complementary sources such as Fassbinder’s contribution to "Germany in Autumn", David Cronenberg’s "Dead Ringers", the 1970s "Mission Impossible" TV-series as well as cel-animation, the theme of the cinematic double is explored and questions of identity, identification and alienation are raised alongside an inquiry into the political and cultural legacies of the German Autumn.
Benjamin Ramírez Pérez (*1988, Germany) lives and works in Cologne. He studied at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne from 2009–2015.
